Steger Rocks for Marielle

Led by T.E.A.R.S. President Ray Zukowski, KristensLaw supporters made the 45 mile trip via Laidlaw Bus transit from from the Villa Park V.F.W. to the Steger Post. Still grieving from the loss of one of their own beloved children, the growing Lombard based activist group was welcomed with opened arms. Upon arrival Zukowski proclaimed "We need to take a good hard look at how to improve railroad safety in this state! These are needless deaths of two young, bright, beautiful girls that could have been prevented. Local, state and federal governments need to hold the railroads accountable and require them to implement the necessary safety improvements that will protect the residents regardless of costs or inconvenience." The well organized event stirred many emotions and drew more attention to the need for railroad safety reforms.

Patrons from Steger and surrounding communities filled the local V.F.W. Hall in a touching show of support for Marielle Anderson and the Anderson family. In hopes of raising up to $5,000 to help offset costly funeral and burial expenses, Crete Jaycees along with Karen Haney (see list of others) threw a party that will not be forgotten. The highly touted Band Dilligaf performed live on stage while supporters enjoyed an All U Can Eat spaghetti and meatball dinner, later working off their indulgence on the dance floor. Door prizes, raffles along with drink coupons were included at the price of $15.00 per adult and $7.00 for children.

Though receipts have yet to be tallied officially, it appears the fundraiser should come very close to their desired goal. Our evening ended with a most gracious moment when host Karen Haney along with Steger supporters presented KristensLaw with a Beautiful statue of an angel. The angel will always represent our "Fallen Angels" who have been lost but will remain in our hearts forever.

The Anderson family, still reeling from the recent tragedy along with health and family issues were unable to attend. Not to worry, for on this night their presence along with Marielle’s and Kristen’s were heartfelt and rocking the crowded hall!
